This subject explores the concept of illness and examines the experience of hospitalisation on individuals. The skills of decision making and reflective practice are emphasised, with students being given the opportunity to gather, analyse and interpret data in the preparation of nursing care plans and nursing interventions. Students will utilise a problem solving process introduced in Clinical Nursing Practice 1 and will apply this within the clinical setting.

Learning Outcomes

  • describe the need for research-based clinical practice;
  • apply the concepts of illness to nursing practice;
  • describe the effects of hospitalisation on individuals, and suggest strategies to resolve any problems that may occur;
  • integrate knowledge from other subjects in applying the skills of clinical decision making and reflective practice;
  • develop and apply the clinical skills needed for assessment and intervention in the clinical setting.
