RH1004 - Foundations of Allied Health Professional Practice

The subject provides students with opportunities to gain an understanding of the role of Allied Health Professionals within the modern health care environment. The subject explores inter-professional practice and current health frameworks that will equip students with skills and knowledge they will utilise in future clinical placements and practice. Professionalism and inter-professional constructs will be examined and discussed specifically with regard to the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy professions. Students will learn skills which are fundamental to successful and safe practice across a range of health settings.

Learning Outcomes

  • explain health professional roles, identity and interprofessional practice to ensure safe, effective and efficient clinical practice;
  • describe issues related to and methods to ensure personal safety, ethical practice and effective service delivery across a range of healthcare settings and in a multicultural environment;
  • utilising appropriate frameworks, describe the influencing factors which impact on client wellbeing including client attitudes and perspectives on health management;
  • demonstrate practical skills appropriate for allied health practice.

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (50%) - Individual
  • Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (30%) - Group
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Practical assessment/practical skills demonstration - (20%) - Individual.

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied; achieve at least 50% for the written exam; attend at least 80% of scheduled practical classes.
