In this subject preservice teachers will explore policies and theories of curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment and reporting and use these to develop practices. They will develop skills in planning and responding appropriately to the diversity of student needs within an ethic of care and justice, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The subject will encourage preservice teachers to work collaboratively to develop their understanding of effective strategies for embedding numeracy and literacy and Indigenous perspectives within their professional practice. Attention is given as to how assessment can be used to inform both students' learning and teaching practice. Preservice teachers will develop repertories of practice relating to the development of teaching and learning and assesment activities within supportive learning environments including the recognition of individual and special needs, and effective interactions with the wider community. Understanding influences on professional learning is also emphasized.
