Core subject for BEd (ECE) students.
This subject introduces students to the National Quality Framework including the
National Quality Standard, National Law and Regulations and the Early Years Learning
Framework. Taking a play-based approach, early childhood pedagogy, principles
and practice are explored in relation to documenting and planning for further learning
of young children. Ten (10) full days of professional experience in a prior to school
setting with children aged from 0 to 2 years will offer students the opportunity to
link theoretical learning to classroom practice. (Note: the 10 days professional experience
is spread over 10 weeks; that is, 1 day per week)
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an understanding of the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood
Education , including National Quality Standard, National Law and Regulations
and the Early Years Learning Framework .;
- Develop and apply skills in creativng a Situational Analysis; documenting and assessing
children's learning; and planning for further learning;
- Develop and understanding of a play-based approach to early chldhood pedaboby;
- Demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at a 'developed' level.

Assumed knowledge in this subject includes an understanding of the development of
the young child in terms of physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development
as studied in ED1481:03 Foundations of Educational Psychology.
