This subject examines the link between strategic decision making and leadership. It also looks at the principles of change management, how it might be managed and what role effective leadership plays in changing an organisation. Moreover, it focuses on why and how change happens and what can be done to make the process more acceptable by providing more than one approach offering insights into different frameworks at an individual, team and organizational level. Students should find models, tools and techniques that move beyond theoretical to pragmatism allowing them to understand the changes they will experience, initiate and lead.

Learning Outcomes

  • critically evaluate leadership theory and organisational behaviour as they relate to contemporary firms;
  • apply strategic thinking, strategy formation and strategic change;
  • appraise leadership skills relevant to managing strategic change through people processes and performance in organisations.
