This subject explores the principles behind design thinking, a methodology applied to find practical and creative solutions for problems or issues leading to the development of better products, services, processes and strategies. Design thinkers collaborate across diverse disciplines (designers and non-designers) applying a human-centered design methodology to problems and which has the potential to lead to a range of innovations applicable to practice in industry and society. Students will learn to be solution focused in a range of settings and which will lay the foundation for the complex challenges that they will face as professionals both individually and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

Learning Outcomes

  • an understanding of the concepts and principles that underpin design thinking;
  • the ability to apply the design thinking methodology to contemporary issues and challenges;
  • enhanced skills in creativity and innovation applicable to contemporary work environments.
