BX3032 - Advanced Business Modelling

Subject to the prescribed prerequisite subjects having been completed, there are no
restrictions on enrolment in this subject.
This subject addresses advanced concepts in business modelling to enhance decision
making in organisational contexts. Students will be required to develop further the
knowledge and skills gained in the subject, BU2006 (Business Modelling). Topics will
include development of advanced software-based business models and the interpretation
and evaluation of model results both from a user and a builder's point of view. Excel
will be the primary application software used to build these decision models. The
focus will be on solving advanced decision problems requiring prior knowledge of the
fundamentals for accounting and finance.
- to demonstrate critical understanding of the theoretical and empirical literature
on business modelling;
- to be able to recognise, structure and formulate solutions to complex business problems;
- to be able to design, build and test computer-based models for planning, decision
making and control of business problems;
- to be able to interpret model results (both from a builder and an user perspective)
to assess their goodness-of-fit to decision criteria, and/or make recommendations
for adoption by the appropriate stakeholders;
- to be able to integrate the knowledge of MS excel and other application software with
the knowledge of accounting and finance.
