This subject is an introductory course in Economics. It covers concepts in Macroeconomis and Microeconomics and provides students with an understanding of the various economic interrelationships, both domestic and international, which will help them to reach informed business decisions in the highly dynamic world of business. The subject introduces the economic principle of demand and supply which builds a foundation to understanding topics such as market forces, externalities, the environment, competition, trade, pricing practices, government policy, economic growth, and globalisation.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of concepts and analyses in microeconomics and macroeconomics;
  • Apply these concepts to important contemporary microeconomic and macroeconomic problems including major policy issues; and;
  • Discuss newspaper articles on Economic issues;
  • State a definition of Economics and list a range of topics which can come under this definition;
  • Analyse current economic issues.
