An overview of the civil process in the Supreme Court; fundamental principles of civil
procedure; jurisdiction; parties and joinder; limitation periods; commencing proceedings;
workers compensation and motor vehicle insurance scheme; pleadings; errors and defaults;
discovery; trial; costs; alternative dispute resolution.
Learning Outcomes
- to develop competency in quickly assimilating the practices and rules of courts and
tribunals using the common law model;
- to provide students with a sound understanding of the principles of civil procedure
by examining their implementation.
