In this technology and innovation subject, students will complete three compulsory modules, and will choose an additional three optional modules. The compulsory modules cover new materials technology, systems design and commercial IT survival skills. The new material technology module explores new innovations and materials and how they can be used creatively in future applications and prototypes. The systems design module examines the application of systems theory to product development. Exploring the concepts of reliability, scalability and maintainability. The final module covers the basics of business IT, web services, how the cloud works, security, online payments, web services, crypto currency.

Learning Outcomes

  • analyse and evaluate product development pipelines using system design theory focused on the concepts of reliability, scalability and maintainability;
  • identify the concepts and principles that underpin the basics of web services, how the cloud works, security, online payments, web services and crypto currency;
  • integrate new material technology into the context of future applications and prototypes.
