WS2009 - Foundations of Social Work Research

Foundations of Social Work Research provides an introduction to the concepts, principles and processes of researching social issues relevant to the social work discipline. Students are introduced to a variety of research methodologies, designs and methods of collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative information.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate comprehension of the research process and the competing philosophies that guide the practice of research;
  • demonstrate a foundational understanding of ethical issues in conducting research;
  • describe and distinguish the different types of qualitative and quantitative research;
  • demonstrate foundational skills in designing a research project;
  • demonstrate critical understanding of research reports.

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Problem task - (50%) - Individual
  • Written > Critical Analysis - (50%) - Individual.
Prerequisites: WS1006 OR WS1005
