This subject will provide students with an opportunity to further integrate their
learning gained from previous theoretical subjects. The focus of this subject will
be on the student developing a higher level of professional skills and competencies,
and further advancing their reasoning skills and reflective practices through the
integration of practical and course components. As part of this subject, students
will complete a minimum of 152 hours (4 weeks at 38 hrs) of advanced supervised fieldwork
placements with flexible support from the university. The placement will enable the
student to apply, develop, analyse and integrate the theories, principles and practice
of public health in a variety of settings. The placement may not be undertaken as
part of the student's routine paid employment activities.
Learning Outcomes
- identify, describe and analyse the public health issues in their chosen setting using
appropriate public health theory;
- prioritise the public health issues in their chosen setting;
- describe how to use the available resources to obtain the best public health outcomes
in their chosen setting;
- be able to discuss the impact of local and national policies and politics on the incidence
and management of identified public health issues in their chosen setting;
- demonstrate that they are aware of the ethical and cultural aspects of provision of
health care in their chosen setting.

Special Assessment Requirements
Provide a letter of support from the placement organisation prior to commencement;
Develop a learning contract and have it signed by placement supervisor, subject coordinator
and you; Undertake a risk assessment; Provide a placement portfolio; Meet hurdle requirement:
provide a letter from sponsor verifying attendance and activities; Receive a grade
of 'satisfactory' on all assessment items;
