This subject introduces students to the key principles of planning and evaluating
public health prevention and promotion programs. This includes an introduction to
program planning models and frameworks as well as key approaches and methods to facilitate
effective public health evaluation. Students will use this knowledge to develop an
evidence based public health program and evaluation plan for an identified health
issue.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate an understanding of the steps and processes involved in planning public
health programs;
- critically appraise the role of evaluation within public health programs;
- differentiate between formative, process, impact and outcome evaluation;
- critically analyze the qualitative and quantitative data collection methods used in
planning and evaluating public health programs;
- develop a public health program and evaluation plan to address an identified health
issue.

- Written > Project plan - (50%) - Individual
- Written > Project report - (35%) - Individual.
