This course will cover optimal nutrition for exercise performance including nutrition
categories and values for food, hydration and electrolyte balance, fluid replacement,
carbohydrate loading, glycemic index, proteins and fats, vitamins and minerals, public
health issues, nutritional supplements and dietary analysis. The anthopometry component
of the course will cover assessment of body composition (skinfolds, girths and bioelectrical
impedance) and somatotyping.
Learning Outcomes
- understand the effect of nutrition on athletic performance and to be able to evaluate,
formulate and solve problems in this area;
- conduct dietary analysis and understand the implications for health and athletic performance;
- be able to make body composition measurements including height, weight, skinfold,
girth.
