SL4003 - Professional Competencies for Speech Pathology 2

Enrolment is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology,
Speech Pathology IHCAP Program and the Bachelor of Speech Pathology Honours Programs.
This course will develop student's understanding of ethical principles and the ethics
of care. In addition, students will apply these ethical reasoning to critical incidents
in speech pathology practice. Students will also develop knowledge about the legal
aspects which impact on the profession of speech pathology. Working in inter-professional
teams and developing appropriate service delivery models are key components to working
as a speech pathologist, especially in Northern Australia. This course provides the
knowledge base for team work and for conceptualizing specialised services. Student
will discuss different types of service delivery and team work that currently exists
in speech pathology. For example, the generic competencies for Rehabilitation will
- students will have knowledge of practice in specialist areas of speech pathology;
- students will understand the levels of competency required to practice in these areas;
- students will understand the ethical and legal requirements of specialist areas of

knowledge and skills in working with teams;
