This subject supports students in developing knowledge and skills in the conceptualisation,
design, and planning of a research project. Students will consolidate their skills
as critical consumers of research literature through searching and appraising relevant
literature regarding a contemporary speech pathology issue. Students will then use
the findings as a foundation on which to design and develop a research project, and
construct and defend a research proposal. Students will be required to demonstrate
skills in independence, leadership, planning, and critical reflection.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify and refine a research topic relevant to contemporary speech pathology practice;
- Critically evaluate relevant literature relating to a contemporary practice issue
in order to contextualise, design, and justify a research question;
- Examine research methodologies and associated methods, in order to identify a research
approach that aligns effectively with a study question;
- Develop, communicate, and defend a comprehensive proposal justifying the rationale
for underpinning methodology, data collection and analysis processes, and practical
and ethical dimensions of a contemporary research topic;
- Critically evaluate and reflect on ones' own a performance in relation to research
project planning and reporting.
