This subject further develops students' clinical knowledge, skills and professional
attributes developed in SL3011, as outlined in CBOS 2011, with an emphasis on ongoing
professional and clinical skill development. Students will further develop their skills
and knowledge of stuttering assessment and management. Students will undertake clinical
placements under the supervision and guidance of clinical educators and will have
the opportunity to work directly with paediatric and adult clients with communication
and/or swallowing impairments, and resultant activity limitations and participation
restrictions.
Learning Outcomes
- Communicate effectively when interacting with and interviewing clients and others,
and when reporting clinical findings verbally and in written format;
- Conduct effective speech pathology assessment, interpretation, planning, and intervention;
mostly independently;
- Behave professionally and ethically and in accordance with policies and procedures
of the clinical placement setting and the profession of speech pathology;
- Apply clinical reasoning in assessment and management decisions with regard to diverse
populations;
- Assess and conduct interventions for stuttering;
- Reflect on ones' own clinical competence with reference to the behavioural descriptors
and exemplars in Compass (Generic Professional Competencies 1-4 and CBOS 2011 Units
1-4).

Special Assessment Requirements
Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative
score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties;
pass every assessment item; participate in at least 80% of scheduled classes and complete
all scheduled placement hours.
