Assessing and selecting individuals for organisational entry, role transfer, or promotion
are key activities in all organisations. Similarly, training and development are organisational
functions that rely on sound knowledge of assessment principles as well as theories
of learning and growth. This subject provides a comprehensive overview of the psychological
concepts underlying personnel assessment, selection, and development. The subject
also reveals the evidence-based organisational practices that leverage these theories
to drive organisational performance. The subject will explore topics in assessment
and selection ranging from job analysis and human capital strategy to assessment and
selection methods. A focus is given to training and development topics such as needs

differences, development, learning, motivation, and measurement provide the subject's
conceptual underpinning.
