PY4403 - Individual Differences and Lifespan Development

In this subject, students will learn about individual differences in biological, cognitive, and psychosocial changes and constancies that occur throughout the course of life. The students will be introduced to historical and contemporary conceptual frameworks, and principles and theories of personality, intelligence and lifespan development. There will be a specific focus on theories and assessment methods for studying the lives of individuals at various developmental stages. Students will also learn how individual differences influence the way one thinks and behaves. Students will be provided with the opportunity to examine issues related with developmental stages as well as address questions about personality stability across the lifespan.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify and evaluate the historical and contemporary conceptual frameworks, principles and theories of Individual differences and lifespan development;
  • Evaluate key influences on milestones and changes in the physical, cognitive, and social development of human beings across the lifespan;
  • Critically appraise research techniques employed to study individual differences in human development.

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (30%) - Group
  • Written > Case study analysis - (50%) - Individual.

Special Assessment Requirements

Achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties, and attempt and submit the oral presentation and the written case study analysis and at least 8 of the 10 weekly quizzes.
