This subject introduces students to three major perspectives in the science of psychology: the biological, the behavioural and the cognitive. The subject will explore the theoretical and historical aspects of each perspective, with an emphasis on the scientific methods used in each. In addition, the subject covers the empirical findings and applications of biological, behavioural and cognitive psychology. This subject provides a foundation for the student's future learning in psychological science.

Learning Outcomes

  • Describe and differentiate the theories in biological, behavioural and cognitive psychology;
  • Critically evaluate methods use in biological, behavioural and cognitive psychology;
  • Appraise how research in biological, behavioural and cognitive psychology can be applied to address human problems.

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (30%) - Group
  • Written > Literature review - (50%) - Individual.

Special Assessment Requirements

Achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties, and attempt and submit the oral presentation and the written literature review and at least 8 of the 10 weekly quizzes.
