PS4004 - Advanced Topics in Physiotherapy

This subject introduces students to several selected areas of specialised physiotherapy practice. The areas of practice have been chosen to develop advanced skills in areas of practice or introduce students to areas of specialised practice they may not have encountered during clinical placement. Students will also be required to participate in 20 hours of professional development in the course of the study period. This will serve to highlight the importance of continual skills development for these emerging health professionals.

Learning Outcomes

  • evaluate the rationale for specialized assessment in a range of conditions relevant to advanced physiotherapy practice;
  • interpret pathologies in order to develop appropriate treatment plans relevant to advanced physiotherapy practice;
  • analyse and critically appraise the literature surrounding the relevant advanced physiotherapy practice.
Prerequisites: PS4001 OR (PS4101 AND PS4102)

Assessment: end of semester exam (70%); assignments (30%).
Special Assessment Requirements: Students must pass the end of semester exam to pass the subject. Students must achieve 60% in the end of semester exam to pass the subject.
