This subject provides an introduction to the concepts associated with public policy
analysis and management. It covers competing policy goals and trade-offs, the various
ways that governments and societal interests define policy problems, and the tools
governments use in the policy process. Emphasis will be on applying this knowledge
to analyse alternative policy choices. The subject is designed to cater to a wide
variety of students with an interest in public policy and its management.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply relevant policy concepts to a range of social and political issues;
- Analyse and evaluate alternative policy choices to resolving societal problems;
- Communicate policy advice to relevant stakeholders.

- Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (50%) - Individual
- Oral > Presentation 1 - (20%) - Group
- Written > Briefing paper - (30%) - Group.
