In order to prepare students for the professional workplace, this capstone subject will consolidate core disciplines of advanced pharmacy practice, using a case-based approach. Students will be required to integrate therapeutic, scientific and professional knowledge, in the consideration of contemporary professional pharmacy practices, with a particular focus on rural, regional and remote Australia. Students will apply their knowledge and skills across nine weeks of supervised clinical pharmacy placements, demonstrating professional competence and a highly developed understanding of current and future professional roles of the pharmacist.

Learning Outcomes

  • In the consideration of case-based scenarios, demonstrate an understanding of the current legislative, ethical, pharmacoeconomic and management issues relevant to contemporary pharmacy practice;
  • In the consideration of case-based scenarios, identify and be able to address social and cultural issues pertinent to the Australian healthcare context;
  • In the consideration of case-based scenarios, apply prior evidence-based knowledge of therapeutics in the assessment of patient pharmaceutical needs, adhering to the principles of good pharmaceutical care for optimal health outcomes;
  • Apply advanced knowledge of professional pharmacy practices in the Australian context, to experiential learning settings, relating theory and practice through reflective activity.

Special Assessment Requirements

Compulsory residential attendance is required for successful completion of this subject.

As this is a core level 4 subject in the BPharm(Hons)/MPharm pathway, students will be expected to have completed all core level 1, 2 and 3 subjects.
