This subject develops knowledge of the foundational principles used by Diabetes Educators
and senior clinicians in everyday clinical diabetes practice.
Learning Outcomes
- Describe diabetes as a disease across the lifespan and different populations;
- Apply models of care to accepted diabetes pathways based on person-centred goals;
- Integrate knowledge of pathophysiology and aetiology to the management of diabetes;
- Apply relevant principles of governance, Quality Improvement cycle and contemporary
evidence to achieve quality outcomes within the scope of the diabetes educator within
a multidisciplinary team.
Subject Assessment
- Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (30%) - Individual
- Oral > Presentation 1 - (30%) - Individual
- Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (40%) - Individual.
Special Assessment Requirements
Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative
score of at least 50% after applying penalties such as late penalties.
