NS5354 - Implementing Practice Development in Healthcare Contexts

In this subject, students will explore contemporary theories of practice development to facilitate person-centred, safe and effective workplace cultures in healthcare contexts. Students will authenticate their own role as practice developers by identifying the gaps, barriers, and enablers in designing a healthful workplace culture. Embracing the principles of practice development, students will plan sustainable workplace change through the creation of a practice development plan.

Learning Outcomes

  • Interpret the principles, key concepts and methods applied in practice development that facilitate person-centred, safe and effective workplace cultures in healthcare contexts;
  • Critically reflect on person-centred practice and workplace culture in own healthcare context to identify gaps that inform a practice development project;
  • Evaluate the barriers and enablers of sustainable change in healthcare settings that influence practice development action planning;
  • Develop a project plan that embodies the key principles and methods of practice development to create person-centred cultures in healthcare settings.

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > ePoster - (50%) - Individual
  • Written > Reflection/reflective task 1 - (40%) - Individual.

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
