This subject prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage conflict
in a healthcare environment. Students will examine the key theories, styles, strategies
and tactics of negotiation, mediation and coaching, as well as theoretical approaches
to conflict analysis and apply these skills to develop an intervention plan to resolve
conflict in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes
- Interpret and apply theoretical frameworks relevant to negotiation and conflict resolution
in the healthcare context;
- Critically reflect on one's own response to conflict and the use of personal negotiation
styles in the workplace;
- Investigate factors that affect conflict and analyse their influence on managing conflict
in the healthcare context;
- Appraise a conflict situation and develop an intervention plan to resolve conflict
in the workplace.

- Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (%) - Individual
- Oral > Presentation 1 - (40%) - Individual
- Written > Proposal - (40%) - Individual
- Written > Self-reflection task - (20%) - Individual.
Special Assessment Requirements
Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative
score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
