This subject explores foundational concepts applicable to leading and managing in
diverse healthcare settings. A major focus of this subject is to apply leadership
and management theories and frameworks to the student's workplace to contextualise
their leadership and management knowledge. Key topics include change management and
quality improvement; strategic and operational planning and practical approaches to
enhance professional resilience which enables the student to build their professional
competence to lead and manage in the healthcare context.
Learning Outcomes
- Interpret and apply key leadership and management theories in the healthcare context;
- Critique relevant communication skills and apply these to leading and managing teams
in the healthcare context;
- Apply change management theory to design a quality improvement initiative suitable
for a healthcare environment;
- Critically analyse the utilisation of essential capabilities to lead or manage a team
in challenging healthcare environments.

- Oral > Presentation 1 - (40%) - Individual
- Written > Essay (25%); Written > ePoster (25%) - (50%) - Individual.
Special Assessment Requirements
Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative
score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
