In today's data age, healthcare professionals have access to vast amounts of information and misinformation. In this subject, students learn how to find, appraise and utilise reliable and credible sources of health related information. Students will acquire advanced knowledge and skills in literature searching and appraisal. Students will undertake a systematic search and critical appraisal of research in the production of a narrative literature review related to their area of healthcare interest.

Learning Outcomes

  • Create and execute a literature searching plan relevant to an area of specialisation and interest through the identification of appropriate keywords, databases, and delimiters;
  • Critically appraise selected literature using a systematic tool relevant to an area of specialisation and interest;
  • Produce a well-structured, concise but comprehensive review of appraised literature;
  • Describe the process required to plan and write a literature review using a systematic approach.

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (%) - Individual
  • Written > Literature review - (60%) - Individual
  • Written > Project plan - (40%) - Individual.

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
