In this subject students will apply their personal philosophy of midwifery in the
provision of comprehensive woman centred care. The subject will have a particular
emphasis on maternity care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and families,
and rural and remote midwifery practice. Extended clinical experience will enable
students to consolidate clinical skills and integrate theoretical knowledge essential
to practice as a graduate midwife.
Learning Outcomes
- plan and critically evaluate midwifery care in partnership with women;
- demonstrate safe, appropriate, responsive and reflective quality midwifery care for
women and their babies in any setting;
- engage in therapeutic and professional relationships in the provision of collaborative
midwifery care;
- apply the NMBA (2018) Midwife Standards for Practice in the provision of midwifery
care;
- apply principles of woman centred care in the provision and application of evidence-based
midwifery practice for women and their babies.

Special Assessment Requirements
Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in all
scheduled workshop classes; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application
of any penalties such as late penalties; achieve a satisfactory grade for the portfolio
assessment task and PEP; achieve at least 50% for the examination. Examinations may
be scheduled outside regular university examination period.
