This subject aims to develop students' knowledge in the specialty area of mental health
nursing. The importance of the use of self and development of the therapeutic alliance
will underpin approaches to managing mental disorders in a range of settings. Through
exploration of relevant theory, nursing practice and skills components students will
develop the competence to provide mental health nursing strategies to clients experiencing
a variety of mental disorders.
