This subject extends the principles of health assessment to include the utilisation of data in planning culturally safe person-centered care. Infection control principles are applied in the context of asepsis and simple and complex wound management. Quality use of medicines is emphasised with a focus on medication safety.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply principles of culturally safe person-centred care in the provision of fundamental nursing care across the lifespan;
  • Utilise assessment data to identify, plan and review nursing interventions and communicate outcomes;
  • Demonstrate practical application of principles of asepsis and simple and complex wound management;
  • Utilise the NSQHS Medication Safety Standard as a framework for safe medication administration and management;
  • Apply the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice and the National Safety and Quality Standards in the provision of evidence-based nursing care.

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in at least 80% of scheduled tutorials/specified online content; participate in all scheduled clinical skills classes; achieve a satisfactory grade for the clinical calculation, peer review and PEP; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.

Prerequisites: (NS1881 or NS1211) AND BM1011 (ALLOW CONCURRENT BM1011)
