MO1010 - Diabetes and its Sequelae

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions: Dietetics; Occupational Therapy; Pharmacy; Physiotherapy; Podiatry; Psychology; Social Work.

This module provides participants with the opportunity to extend their knowledge of diabetes, its management and subsequent common complications across the life course, with a focus upon Type 2 Diabetes. Diabetes in the rural and remote context is explored by developing an understanding of prevalence, risk and prevention in conjunction with building assessment and intervention skills. Interprofessional implications and the challenges of rural and remote diabetes service delivery will also be explored.

Learning Outcomes

  • combine advanced knowledge of diabetes and its sequelae and assessment and clinical reasoning skills, to formulate and communicate multi-disciplinary self-management plans designed to optimise care in the rural and/or remote setting in accordance with best practice guidelines and local service strategic intent.

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: achieve satisfactory for all assessment.

Prerequisites: Participants are responsible for ensuring they are practicing in accordance with the regulatory instruments of their specific allied health profession, within their own personal scope of practice and experience level and in accordance with the policies of their employer. This module requires access to a patient or consumer with Type 2 Diabetes with subsequent complications, so as to demonstrate achievement of module outcomes in the appropriate clinical context.
