This subject describes mathematical techniques applied to real world problems. Topics
will be chosen from: the non-linear oscillator, traffic flow problems, population
models, the simplex method, integer programming, network flow problems, general linear
programming and transportation problems.
- an understanding of how real world problems involving optimisation and problems from
science and engineering can be solved using mathematical techniques;
- to become familiar with and apply commercial software packages to real world problem
