Health professionals are increasing expected to play their part in contributing to
evidence for practice through conducting research. This subject introduces students
to a verity of methodologies and provides opportunities for to students practice the
skills necessary to conduct a research project. Topics such as the theoretical and
conceptual foundations of research, research design, ethical considerations, quantitative,
qualitative and mixed methodologies, data generation and analysis as well as proposal
writing, enable students to work systematically through the research process as it
applies to their discipline.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate an ability to identify, analyse and apply evidence based practice in health
professional education;
- Discuss and apply methods for generating evidence through quantitative, qualitative
and mixed methods;
- Apply ethical principles in the conduct of health professional research;
- Generate accurate and relevant documentation necessary for the conduct of valid research.
Subject Assessment
- Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (60%) - Individual
- Assignment 1 - Gathering and analyzing data - (40%) - Individual.
