HS5603 - Health Service Evaluation 1

Students will learn approaches for evaluation of health services. The subject will include structure, process, output and outcome evaluation to ensure that services are effective, efficient, relevant, accessible, equitable and safe. Based on the advanced knowledge attained in this subject, students will develop a health service evaluation proposal relevant to their service to inform decision making at a local level, or inform clinical decisions for better patient care and management.

Learning Outcomes

  • Synthesise current and evidence based models/frameworks of Health Service Evaluation using expert judgment and critical thinking;
  • Apply advanced and integrated understanding to develop a health service evaluation using applicable and relevant concepts, theories, and information;
  • Design a proposal to evaluate a health service, existing or new treatment service, technique, intervention procedure, educational programme, or staff/patient/carers patterns of activity;
  • Communicate the proposed health service evaluation through expert written, oral, and visual presentation skills.

Subject Assessment

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Annotated bibliography - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Proposal - (30%) - Individual.

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied; pass every assessment item.
