This subject is designed to lay a foundation for the teaching of movement and physical education in primary and secondary schools. Initially, it focuses on the development of knowledge, attitudes, and skills that support the teaching of fundamental and specialised movement skills core to physical activity and sport participation. Underpinning the development of the capacity to teach fundamental and specialised movement skills is the foundational knowledge related to the structure and function of the body and its growth and development (biophysical bases) across the primary and secondary schooling years. Alongside the biophysical bases of movement, the importance of access, equity and ethics in the development and maintenance of lifelong participation in physical activity will be investigated. Students will apply the theoretical constructs by participating in a variety of applied activities, for example; athletics, challenge and adventure, minor games and sports. The foundation offered by the subject will implicitly impact upon the students' initial teaching practices.
