In the Research Project, students undertake a substantial piece of independent research under the supervision of appointed supervisor. Research project may consist of application of advanced laboratory, field or computer techniques to analyse and design solutions for an engineering problem. Research topics are often based on real world problems in cooperation with local and regional industries. Research Project is a 6 credit point subject chain comprising Research Project 1 (EG5311) and Research Project 2 (EG5312) and is spread over two semesters. EG5312:03 (Research Project 2) is the second part of the Research Project where students complete the research project based on the objectives and methodologies defined in the research proposal. Students are required to submit a final research report and give a research seminar.

Learning Outcomes

  • locate and critically appraise available literatures and resources to formulate research problems;
  • demonstrate a capacity for original thought and independent investigation;
  • develop and practise sound oral and written communication skills to articulate and present research objectives, findings and conclusions;
  • use advanced research and project planning techniques to plan and execute research projects.
