In the Research Project, students undertake a substantial piece of independent research
under supervision of appointed supervisor/s. Research project may consist of application
of advanced laboratory, field or computer techniques to analyse and design solutions
for an engineering problem. Research topics are often based on real world problems
in cooperation with local and regional industries. Research Project is a 6 credit
point subject chain comprising Research Project 1 (EG5311) and Research Project 2
(EG5312) and is spread over two semesters. EG5311:03 (Research Project 1) is the first
part of the Research Project where students are required to choose a research topic,
conduct a comprehensive literature review, define scope and objectives of the research,
define methodologies to achieve the objectives, prepare detailed project planning
and conduct preliminary study. Students are required to submit a research proposal
and give a research proposal seminar. As this subject is a part of a subject chain,
a final standard grade will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion
of all parts of the chain subject.
