Limited to students enrolled in the Master of Teaching and Learning (Primary).
This subject is aims to develop teachers as leaders in the educative role of curriculum,
pedagogy and assessment in Health and Physical Education. Health and Physical Education
provides opportunities for embodied, active and collaborative learning in areas of
personal, social and community health; wellbeing; safety; physical activity and movement;
and the varied and changing contexts for lifelong participation. Proposals for health
and physical education having an educative purpose, taking a strength-based and critical
inquiry approach, building health literacy and valuing movement will be explored.
Students will engage in advanced and differentiated curriculum planning, and associated
pedagogies, that are culturally connected to communities of the tropics. Students
will develop capacities in ethical decision-making about curriculum, policy, pedagogy,
assessment, and community expectations.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate advanced understandings about health and physical education curriculum,
pedagogies and assessment;
- critique a range of ways of assessing, interpreting and reporting on student learning
in health and physical education;
- explore cultural connections to communities of the tropics, including Indigenous contributions
and diverse perspectives in health and physical education;
- select and demonstrate responsive and differentiated pedagogies for diverse students;
- demonstrate professional numeracy and literacy content mastery and the ability to
apply strategies for teaching numeracy and literacy in health and physical education
contexts.
