This subject develops graduate student teachers' specialist subject and pedagogical content knowledge in Years 11 and 12. Graduate student teachers will master professional knowledge and demonstrate a range of practices for teaching senior secondary subjects in their first teaching area. Graduate student teachers will demonstrate a deep understanding of the content knowledge and processes of the subject, and effective teaching of content and skills, with attention to integrating Information Communication Technologies and critical thinking. Special attention is paid to the use of diagnostic, formative and summative assessment, and moderation practices. Graduate student teachers will develop their ability to identify and use learner data to plan, enact and evaluate an evidence-informed practice cycle.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate advanced and integrated understanding and application of the concepts, substance and structure of the content of developmentally-appropriate senior secondary curricula;
  • apply knowledge and technical skills to plan for the integration of ICT to effectively facilitate and showcase student learning and critical thinking;
  • plan learning goals, lesson sequences, teaching strategies, resources and assessment that provide differentiated and equitable learning opportunities for students from diverse cultural, linguistic and socio-economic backgrounds, and with specific learning needs;
  • interpret student assessment data to plan and enact evidence-informed teaching, evaluate student learning and modify teaching practice;
  • demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of the purpose of and strategies for providing timely and appropriate feedback to students about their learning;
  • demonstrate an advanced and integrated understanding of assessment moderation and its application to support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning.
