A comprehensive understanding of career development theory forms the basis of quality
career development practice. As such, in this subject students will be introduced
to contemporary theoretical perspectives of career development and accompanying tools.
Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of career development theories
and critically reflect on their application in a range of contexts across educational,
community and employment settings. as part of this subject, students will also begin
integrating these theories into their own personal theory of career development and
practice.
Learning Outcomes
- critically analyse the theoretical origins and illustrate concepts underpinning contemporary
career development theories;
- examine the purpose of general assessment and career development tools, and conceptualise
their role in career development practice;
- apply career development theories to a range of career development guidance and counselling
contexts and issues;
- practise advanced communication and advocacy skills to interpret, evaluate and justify
complex ideas and professional judgements to a broad range of stakeholders.

- Written > Critical appraisal/review - (40%) - Group.
