This subject will introduce and develop skills in designing, conducting, interpreting and reporting on assessment protocols within a legal and ethical framework. It provides students with the opportunity to clearly demonstrate competence in professional numeracy in guidance and counselling. Both quantitative and qualitative assessment techniques will be explored with an emphasis upon the behavioural and cognitive evaluation of individuals typically referred for guidance and counselling.

Learning Outcomes

  • synthesise cognitive, technical and creative skills and provide recommendations of assessments that are sensitive to multicultural differences, appropriate to rural and regional individuals;
  • integrate understanding of legal and ethical frameworks as outlined by the Australian Counselling Association and Singapore Association for Counselling into assessment practices;
  • attain competence in professional numeracy in guidance and counselling;
  • attain proficiency in communication with both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders using advanced numeracy, reading, writing and advocacy skills;
  • synthesise, interpret, integrate and evaluate information from case studies.

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > Case notes - (40%) - Individual
  • Written > Case report 1 - (50%) - Individual.
