This subject is designed for students who wish to expand their knowledge of contemporary environmental education and climate change education within professional and community settings. Educating for sustainability is one of the key issues for our time. This subject introduces contemporary approaches to environmental and climate change education at international and national level. In this subject you will be introduced to recent policy, curriculum, pedagogy, and research and be encouraged to link theoretical understandings with innovative ideas for practice. The complex issues associated with climate change education in the Asia-Pacific region are dealt with in a logical and sequenced way in order to build personal understanding and further develop communication skills. Educational strategies for developing more resilient communities in the face of social and environmental change are investigated. A negotiated research and/or curriculum project allows students to explore their own personal and/or professional interests. ED4944 is an AQF level 7 subject that aims to consolidate knowledge of socio-ecological systems with a view to enhancing capacity to understand and communicate environmental education and climate change. ED4944 is offered in external mode where lectures and tutorials are conducted online through Learn JCU.
Assignments include completion of fieldwork reports.
