Study Period 2 External offering is available to ECE online students only.
Preservice teachers will integrate meaningful community service (minimum 50 hours)
with learning experiences and reflection to enrich their understanding of their own
teaching role. The service-learning projects will aim to strengthen communities with
a focus on activities that promote social and environmental responsibility. Preservice
teachers will explore a range of learning partnerships with community agencies, industry
and business, preparing them for their role with students and in the wider community.
Students have the option of local, national and international service learning experiences.
Learning Outcomes
- critically reflect on professional learning, active citizenship and contribution to
community;
- demonstrate professional engagement with colleagues and the wider community in order
to foster sustainable communities;
- understand and apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for
the teaching profession and ensure that service learning experience enhances the status
of the profession;
- establish professional learning goals and participate effectively in teams in line
with personal skills and responsibilities;
- demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and, for BEd(ECE) students,
relevant ACECQA standards.
