Available ONLY to students enrolled in the BEd (Secondary). Students permitted to
enrol in this subject will have met the prerequisite requirements of ED3488 and 69
credit points of undergraduate subjects from the approved education study plan. Cairns
offering will only be available to students studying Biology, English, Geography,
History and Science.

enrol in this subject will have met the prerequisite requirements of ED3488 and 69
credit points of undergraduate subjects from the approved education study plan. Cairns
offering will only be available to students studying Biology, English, Geography,
History and French. This subject deals with research and practices in curriculum and
teaching relevant to the student's senior teaching area. Preservice teachers will
explore the nature and design of the syllabi in each of their areas and develop discipline
specific short and long term planning strategies, teaching and assessment repertoires
appropriate to the senior years. A core component of this subject will include government
policies, frameworks and quality assurance mechanisms relating to senior schooling
including those relevant to vocational education and training. This subject will also
explore the choices and options available to students post-school and the significance
and potential for partnerships with industry and community to support curriculum delivery.
Learning Outcomes
- plan learning goals, lesson sequences and student assessments that promote engaging
and flexible learning experiences consistent with relevant curriculum frameworks;
- review and critically analyse the legislative, administrative and organisational policies
and processes pertinent to senior schooling;
- demonstrate an understanding and application of the concepts, substance and structures
appropriate to senior subject areas, and demonstrate understanding of assessment moderation
and its application in senior schooling;
- demonstrate an understanding and application of communication strategies for reporting
to students and parents in order to improve student learning;
- demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at an assured level.
