This subject prepares preservice teachers for a range of professional roles within
the classroom, school, with parent/caregivers and the wider community. Preservice
teachers will investigate a range of teaching and learning theories and apply them
to critically reflect on their school-based experiences. The subject will draw extensively
upon school-based activities to explore the relationship between theory, policy and
practice. Specifically for primary preservice teachers, this subject will critically
examine primary school curriculum, assessment, pedagogy and reporting practices and
relate these to the broader role of schools in communities.
Learning Outcomes
- utilise a range of evidence based teaching strategies to support student engagement
and learning;
- develop and critique models of curriculum to meet identified learning goals; and develop
and critique a range of ways of assessing, interpreting and reporting on student learning;
- demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at an assured level;
- critically analyse the role of the teacher and develop strategies for enhancing student
learning;
- analyse research, policies and school practices related to the provision of supportive
learning environments and student well-being, as well as parent/carer engagement.

- Graduate teacher performance assessment (GTPA) - (70%) - Individual
- Written > Action plan - (10%) - Individual.
