CP1801 - Fundamentals of Problem Solving and Programming I

In this subject, students will learn problem-solving and coding skills to develop solutions to IT-related problems. Students will apply problem-solving techniques including decomposition, flowcharts and algorithm design. Basic programming using Python will be introduced including the use of selection, repetition and functions. This subject forms a foundation for further programming subjects.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply problem-solving techniques to develop algorithms in the IT context;
  • apply basic programming concepts to develop solutions.

Subject Assessment

  • Practicals - (40%)
  • Assignment 1 - (30%)
  • Assignment 2 - (30%).

Special Assessment Requirements

Practical attendance is mandatory in this subject. A student who fails to attend and demonstrate their attempt to at least 70% of practical, must meet with the Associate Dean of Learning and Teaching and provide evidence as to why they should be permitted to sit the final exam or submit the final assessment task.
