This subject covers fundamental concepts and algorithms used in modern operating systems.
The main topics covered in this subject include an overview to operating systems followed
by process management, process synchronization, memory management, storage management,
file systems, security and protection, and networks and distributed systems. Students
will experience coding command line interfaces in Windows and shell scripting in Linux
environment.
Learning Outcomes
- describe and explain the fundamental components of a computer operating system;
- define, restate, discuss, and explain the policies for scheduling, deadlocks, memory
management, synchronization, system calls, and file systems;
- demonstrate understanding of different features across shells in Windows and Linux;
- develop and utilise best-practice coding techniques within Linux and Windows shells
to accomplish different tasks.
