This subject focuses on pronouncing the sounds and tones of Mandarin accurately, and
noting them using the 'pinyin' phonetic script. The students will be introduced to
Chinese characters discovering how they represent meanings, and learning the correct
way to write them. The simple principles of word order at the basis of Chinese grammar
will be explained and practised.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate elementary listening, and speaking and the beginning of reading, and writing
skills in Chinese;
- employ elementary structures and particular grammatical functions of Chinese;
- communicate in Chinese in speaking and writing on selected topics of daily living
and modern importance;
- consider the sociocultural dimensions of Chinese use.

- Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (40%) - Individual
