This subject introduces finance and corporate financial decision making. It critically
analyses the core professional obligations and values for enterprises operating in
a sustainable society. Students compare and contrast a wealth maximisation objective
and societal values to be able to provide financial solutions that maximise long run
wealth maximisation. Topics include the time value of money, risk and return, cost
of capital, capital structure, capital budgeting and short term financial management.
Learning Outcomes
- compare, contrast and reconcile where possible the financial objectives of the firm;
- critically analyse and apply finance theory and concepts to business decision making
for sustainable outcomes;
- select and interpret quantitative and qualitative data, using appropriate methodologies
and applications and convey findings and recommendations for corporate planning and
decision making;
- work collaboratively and creatively to apply critical thinking and problem-solving
strategies in corporate financial decision making.
Subject Assessment
- Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (50%) - Individual
- Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (20%) - Individual
- Assignment - (30%) - Group & Individual.
Special Assessment Requirements
Students are required to obtain an overall mark of 50% to pass the subject and must
pass the final examination.
